The Mental Health Patient / Service User - 2635 Words

Introduction There will be an observation of when mental health was founded, then mental health will be critically explored, by investigating the meaning of mental good or poor health. A discussion on two perspectives will be then be attempted, by comparing and contrasting their ways of working with people with poor mental health and a brief understanding of the involvement of the mental health patient/ service user. There will also be a brief explanation on multidisciplinary approach that meets the needs of the service user who has poor mental health. An understanding of the diverse nature of determinates to mental health and well-being will be identified. Mental health problems can affect the way people think, feel and behave. Some mental health problems are described using words that are in everyday use such as depression. These can make them easier to appreciate but also underestimate how serious their situation can be. A mental health problem feels as bad, or as worse, than other illnesses – the only difference is it cannot be seen. Mental health, although common – affecting one in four – there is still a stigma and discrimination against people with mental health problems (Mind, 2014). Whereas, World Health Organisation (WHO, 2014) defines mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realises their own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productivity and is able to make a contribution their community. Whereas poor mental health is associated with rapid social change, stressful work conditions, gender discrimination, social exclusion, unhealthy lifestyle, risks of violence, physical ill-health and human rights violations.
