My Religious and Educational Goals Essay Example For Students

My Religious and Educational Goals Essay Genesis 1:27 states, So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.   Since we are young children, were constantly reminded of our unique qualities and our true value. We are taught to love everyone no matter how different they are. I have always believed that no matter how dark and grimace a person appears to be on the outside, that everyone has some beauty to them. Or should I say, almost everyone. Going through my high school years, I started to degrade someone very important. I started to put this person down for their physical attributes until eventually, I put this person down for their personality, their talents and interests and even the way they thought. I managed to tear this person down into shreds without any mercy. This person was me. No matter what I did, it never felt good enough for me. This mindset I had placed myself self in was not only a lie, but it was hurtful. I got to the point where I couldnt do a whole lot for myself. I wondered what I did in order to be much less than everyone around me. I hated feeling the way that I did. My negative mindset was taking a lot away from me. Through years and years of putting myself through my little own hell, I finally decided that enough was enough. It took me a very long time to realize that I didnt have a reason to feel the way I did. It wasnt until a good friend invited me to church that something changed. I finally understood for once that it was okay to be filled with imperfections. I finally understood that my imperfections made me the unique person that I was meant to be. Upon arriving at church, I finally felt like I belonged. I felt like I found the missing puzzle piece that I had lost. Becoming a Christian didnt make my problems go away. Becoming a Christian allowed me to handle my problems in a much better way. My ability to understand things was much better. I became an active member of church. I taught children, took classes, went on retreats, and ultimately became a much better person. Because of the strong influence that Christianity has had on my life, I have decided to take it upon myself to read the bible before the end of the year. This behavior modification will help my spiritual wellness, which in my case has a very strong effect on my intellectual, social, and emotional wellness. Never do I feel more at peace with myself and with the world then when I am doing what I love. For what I have been taught, spiritual wellness is about understanding yourself as well as your purpose on this planet. Whatever experts or textbook might say, I believe that spiritual wellness is about being at peace with your self. Its about accepting the flaws and qualities that make your that 1 in 8 billion. Needless to say, spiritual wellness is a gateway to being well in various other aspects of your life. In my time at church, I have been reminded over and over again that knowing the word of God is essential to your growth as a Christian. It is also essential to your growth as a person. For those who believe in it, the bible is a somewhat like an answer key. Both my pastor and youth pastor have insisted upon the importance of becoming familiar with the bible and what it has in store for you. This is more of a motivation for to read the bible by the end of the year. Right now, I am finding it very difficult to stick my plan of reading the bible everyday. Its really difficult in that I am a full time college student that forced to study, read, and do many, many, many, more things that are also very important in this point in time. .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa , .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .postImageUrl , .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa , .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:hover , .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:visited , .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:active { border:0!important; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:active , .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u194c9e1b637da254c5878bd95f2dfaaa:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Shoe Industry EssaySadly, I am still in the contemplation stage of my goal. Thirst For Freedom Essays - Slavery In The United States

Thirst for freedom HARRIET TUBMAN In 1820, Benjamin Ross and Harriet Greene both slaves in Buck Town Maryland gave birth to Araminta Greene also born a slave. Araminta lived some 90 years of hardship and peerless journeys to free her people from slavery. Cruelty and unbearable living conditions were a norm for these times. First, we'll need some background on the institution of slavery, which began in the early 15th and 16th century recorded in the ancient history of Babylon and Rome. Portuguese explores living east of Africa provided slave labor for Whites, West Indies and Spanish Plantation owners; in 1660 Virginia Law decreed slaves would serve their masters for life. With the development of plantation land and its five staples of produce Rice, Cotton, Sugar, Tobacco and Coffee required strenuous work to harvest. At the age of six Araminta was taken from her parents to live with James Cook, whose wife was a weaver, to learn the skills of weaving. James Cook would order her to guard his muskrat traps, which compelled her to wade through the water. Once she was sent when she was ill with the measles, and caught a cold from wading in the water and she grew very sick. Her mother convinced her master to take her away from the Cooks until she could recuperate. After she entered her teens she was hired out as field hand. In the fall of that same year slaves were required to work evenings, cleaning up wheat, husking corn, etc. On one afternoon one of the slaves of a farmer named Barrett, left work and went to the village store without permission. The overseer and Araminta followed him. When the slave was found, the overseer swore he would whip the slave, and called on Araminta and others to help tie him. She refused and as the man ran away the overseer picked up a two-pound store weight from the coun ter and threw it at the fugitive, but it fell short and struck Araminta a stunning blow on her head. It was over two months before she recovered from a stupor or but she still seem lethargy at times years later. After this she lived for six years with John Stewart working in the house. She later was hired out to Dr. Thompson, son of her master's guardian. While employed the rudest labors drove oxen, carted, plowed and did work of a man. In 1844 Araminta married John Tubman and took her mother's first name. In 1849 after her master had died, she decided to escape from slavery. If she didn't run away it was rumored she and her brothers were to be sold to a chain gang. Making her way to freedom in Pennsylvania without any friend and no education she relied on her only skill as a house servant. Taoism Applied To Everyday Life Essays - Taoism, Chinese Philosophy

Taoism Applied To Everyday Life Essays - Taoism, Chinese Philosophy Taoism Applied To Everyday Life Taoism applied to everyday life Practice not-doing and everything will fall into place (Chapter 3). In Taoism this is the concept known as wu wei. Wei wu wei is the practice of doing and not-doing. This concept comes from the theory of the Yin and Yang. The Yang, along with wei, is the practice of doing. The Yin, along with wu wei, is the practice of not-doing. One compliments the other, and each cannot exist alone. The Tao tells people to practice not-doing because it will bring happiness in their life. By not-doing, the Tao means not performing actions, which are unnecessary and uncalled for. People should just take things as they come in life and they will live a life full of happiness and pleasure. If you don't interfere with the Tao and let things take their natural course, everything will work out in your life (Chapter 10). If powerful men and women could remain centered in the Taoall people would be at peace (Chapter 32). If you work against your Tao, you will never find happiness. The Sage practices wu wei. He teaches without words and performs without actions (Chapter 43). He knows and therefore does not speak (Chapter 56). Many people mistake conceptual knowledge for the map to the territory. The Sage is our map to the Tao. He points his finger to show us the way, but does not really tell us what to do and how to practice Taoism. Lao Tzu's concepts of the Tao can be a guide to rational living. If one follows these beliefs he is guaranteed happiness in his life. However, it is very difficult to follow the Tao, even though the teachings are said to be easily understood and easily put into practice (Chapter 70). The reason the Tao is so difficult to grasp is because you cannot know that you are practicing it. The Tao is beyond all words. If you give it words, it does not exist. It is unnamable. If you concentrate on the Tao, you will never understand it. You cannot think about it, you must just do it. This is very difficult because people always think about what they do, but this does not work with the Tao (Chapter 1). You cannot look for the Tao; you cannot listen for the Tao. You must just accept the idea that it is always there, omnipresent, and you can't see it. This is all very important because if one cannot understand these first simple steps in Taoism, they will be lost the rest of the way. In personal life, you should never define yourself. When you define yourself, you are actually putting limits on yourself. If a man defines himself as a doctor, he is limiting himself to science. If a man defines himself as a singer, he is limiting himself to music. By limiting yourself, you are not allowing yourself to experience life fully (Chapter 24). Also, you should never define any object because they will always have an opposite. If you define something as good then its opposite is defined as bad, when in reality it might not be (Chapter 2). When a man is about to buy a car, he will want to buy a company with a good name. He has defined one car as good and the rest are bad. When he realizes he cannot afford the good car he is unhappy. He has to buy a bad car. While driving his bad car, he thinks about what people will say. He worries that they will not approve of his new purchase. If the man had not originally set such high expectations of buying a good car, he would not be u pset with his situation. By caring about other people's approval he becomes their prisoner (Chapter 9). If you see things as they are, then you will be happy with whatever you have. If you see things through other's eyes then you will never achieve the high goals you are setting. In family life, be completely present (Chapter 8). All family members should always be there for each other. You should be completely present for the rest of your family, this

The story The Machine Stops relevancy to today Essay

The story The Machine Stops relevancy to today - Essay Example Vashti, the main character of the story, made a phone call to her son Kuno in which she could see the image of the son while they talked. In today’s society such a phone call is possible though video chat such as Skype or with the assistance of a smart phone. The machine in the story had impacted the way people lived so much that human had become isolated from each other. â€Å"People never touch one another† (Forster, 1909). Due to the fact that people lived in an airship most of humans never had visited earth. The machine provided people with everything they need which ended up taking away part of the humanity of people. In today’s society the technological advance that has changed a lot the way people interact with each other is the computer with internet capabilities. The internet has changed the way people do things. For example people nowadays shop a lot online instead of going to regular stores. In 2010 in the United States there was $151.1 billion worth o f e-commerce transactions (Plunkett Research, 2010). People use the computer for their socializing needs through popular friendship websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace. At the end of the first chapter of the story Vashti traveled outside the airship in a flying car that was in route to earth.

Returning to school Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Returning to school - Essay Example However, this year was different. This year was the tenth anniversary of high school for our batch and a reunion had been planned in accordance with the school tradition. I was excited several days in advance for this event. The anticipation of meeting old friends and colleagues, most of whom I had lost touch with, added to the excitement. Finally the day came and I left for my school. Special arrangements were made by the school for our stay. We were greeted with music and flowers. Many of my colleagues had arrived with their spouses. I was still unmarried and single. I could have a glance at my school crushes. It was amazing to see the transformation in the people in ten years. Some so called dumb people had become millionaires and billionaires while some of the smartest guys were leading mediocre lives. A few of my colleagues had become mothers and fathers of two while the others were still taking their chances at the party. Some had become partly bald while the others were seen with a pot belly. It was heart-warming to meet old teachers who were still there. We could recognize them easily while they found it hard to do so. All of us were served a delicious dinner and drinks. Thereafter, we went on the dance floor and made a lot of fun. We took contact numbers of each other and promised to be in touch. We waved good bye to each other with heavy hearts. Returning to school after 10 years was just an amazing experience. It made me realize how far I have come in life and what has been left behind. We would plan such reunions in the future as well and try to relive the good old

Facebook wastes time Essay Example for Free

Facebook wastes time Essay I believe that facebook is bad. In this essay I will tell that Facebook wastes time, occupies the hosts mind and is not, no matter what people say is not the same as actual social interaction. Facebook is not my friend and neither should it be yours, My first reason why facebook is not my friend is because that it wastes everybody time. Now my argument is just armed at facebook, but also the people who make facebook games, Zynga is a major corporation that owns any and all good facebook is games. Facebook itself almost makes you check it, making you wonder what your friends are up to, the idea of a public diary almost, something that anybody can contribute to, a encyclopaedia of a persons life if you will. You could spend minuets, an hour maybe hours at a time just staring at a page when you could be doing something more important, maths homework perhaps? My second argument is that it occupies the hosts mind and doesn’t let anything else in. What I mean by this is that facebook is what some people always think about, they think how many likes they get, what people say about them through private messages and most importantly for some people, how many friends they have. There has been a term for people like these, facebook aholics, people that are always on facebook or worse, people who always think about facebook. There are times that I know that people lose their social life for a virtual life, people stop planning meetings and instead plan them on facebook, the days of not too long ago of RSVP’ing is no lost as almost every event is through facebook and that’s how people respond to them. Free thinking is gone, it is no more, everything on the internet is a reblog, a reblog of a reblog, and all of this is shared through facebook, people think what they are told, and they are told though facebook, nothing new nothi ng original. My last argument is that instant messaging through facebook is not the same as actual social interaction, face to face. The chat system on facebook is the most used one on facebook, pages, walls, games are all good and everything, but what really makes facebook great is the chat system on it, or so we think. There are 26 letters on the keyboard, 10 numbers, 13 symbols, and yet unbelievably this does not make the same level of interaction as talking to someone. When was the last time a person came up to you in the street, someone you know, and they said Heezzz howssss you doings if you can tell me a time of when that happened I would suggest finding some new friends. While people may express themselves differently from behind a computer screen I still find no excuse for people to talk likez thiss it makes them seem like an even bigger idiot then they are. People cloud their identity, pretend to be something or someone they arent, and that makes the entire socialisation, well pointless . Those are just some reasons you shouldnt use facebook, facebook is horrible, nobody should use it, it wastes time, fills your mind with nothing but junk and is far more unhealthy socially then going out and talking. Facebook is not my friend, neither is it yours, take a stand, unfriend facebook.

Primal Instinct :: Free Essay Writer

Primal Instinct In the Lord of the Flies William Golding has a group of schoolboys crash on an island and become barbaric. The reason why the boys turn wild is because of their primal instinct to hurt others. This behavior is inherited from early ancestors killing to stay alive. Mans tendency towards violence, how people take sides and divide into groups, and the struggle for power are three ways mans behavior will generally occur. Each of these suggests that violence is a key factor to getting what they want. Mans primal instinct towards violence really shows when they are living without rules or realize that there are no authority figures to enforce any rules. Without having consequences for any actions that might be taken then they primal instinct of the boys begins to take over. Even though the fact of no punishments may be known in the back of ones mind there is still the thought of what’s right. â€Å"Roger stooped, picked up a stone, aimed, and threw it at Henry and back again.† (Page 67) This is an example of how Roger knows it is wrong to hit someone with a rock but also knows that there are no punishments for anything. â€Å"The madness came into his eyes again. â€Å"I thought I might kill.†Ã¢â‚¬ (Page 55) This is showing how he lets his primal side take over his thoughts when he is hunting. He forgets about everything he had ever been told about what’s right because of his primal instinct to kill. He had an urge to hunt, his instincts were teaching him how. Even thought he really did now know how to hunt mans primal instincts helped him learn quickly. How people take sides and form groups shows how majority rules. The majority that rules needs a leader. This leader has to hold the rules but when the children’s primal instincts take over the control is lost but the majority still rules. â€Å"Let him be the chief with the trumpet thing.† (Page 24) This quote shows how all of the children are agreeing on this. Once one mentions it, the rest agree. If there is not anyone brave enough to mention something then no one will because they are all afraid that no one else will agree with them. â€Å"Who thinks Ralph oughtn’t be chief?† – â€Å"he looked expectantly at the boys ranged round, who had frozen.

Integrative Network Design Project Essay

Kudler Fine Foods will be embarking on a new project to implement improvement to its existing network infrastructure. The end result will be the installation of a WAN to connect all three store locations together to enable better communication and sharing of data. A new WLAN shall also be implemented in order to provide more flexibility in the stores and make added new systems and features easier in the future. Lastly with the new network implementations there shall also be a new VOIP system added to the multi-store network. The first section shall cover the network’s fundamental characteristics components, and evaluation of the current network topology and a description of the standards applicable to this project. Kudler Find Foods currently has three locations, the La Jolla Store/Home Office, The Del Mar Store, and the Encinitas Store. All three locations are currently running on a 100 Base T Ethernet network as well as an HP Blade Server. Each location currently has a 25 Mb ps connection out to the internet, as well as a dedicated OC1 SONET connecting them to other stores. Of the three locations the La Jolla Store currently houses most of the infrastructure. There are currently 19 total computers, POS terminals for the store, and the NAS for backups. In the Del Mar and Encinitas stores the setup is identical with six computers, and the POS terminals for the store. When designing this new system the importance of both standards in network as well as the importance of communication protocols will help to make sure the network works smoothly and devices on the network can talk to each other. Currently Kudler is using a SONET which is â€Å"An ANSI standard, incorporated into the SDH standard, that defines a line rate hierarchy and frame formats for use with high-speed optical fiber transmission systems† (Goleniewski & Jarrett, 2007, p. 800) Standards bodies are essential in networking for the fact that they allow different developers, designers and maintenance teams to have a set of rules to follow when creating and maintaining a system. With this in place Kudler will keep using the ANSI standards when designing and developing the new systems. Along with these standards the system will need to work on a common communication protocol in order for all devices to be able to talk to each other as well as transfer data and other information correctly and efficiently. Each location has its own local network thus it is distributed across the company, however this has its pros and cons that can affect the company. With the implementation of a WAN as defined in Telecommunications Essentials â€Å"A wide area network (WAN) is a group of computer networks connected over long distances by telecommunications links, which can be either wireline or wireless.† (Goleniewski & Jarrett, 2007, p. 201) The benefits that a WAN will bring to Kudler Fine Foods is a centralized management of all systems and an ease of use communication from store to store. As stated earlier along with the WAN, each location will also be implementing a WLAN. This shall improve network coverage and give each location the ability to place computer systems or POS machines in locations that may have not been possible before due to the lack of a hardline or ability to install a new line. Wireless technology has greatly improved over the years and has transitioned from an additional layer that may not be needed or only added if there was room in the budget to a system that is almost a requirement in today’s ever evolving workplace. While implement these new features there are some inherent responsibilities in providing telecommunication services. Some of these responsibilities are security, privacy, reliability, and performance. Security is paramount as a loss of client data or client financial information could be extremely damaging to the Kudler brand. The security of the system and client information should be foremost in the system developer’s mindset. The next item is privacy which has become a hot topic as of late. The need to keep a customer’s privacy in tact will make them feel secure in becoming a return customer. Along with customer privacy is employee privacy. If an employee believes their privacy is intact while at work they will feel more secure as well. Lastly reliability and performance. These two will usually go hand in hand. When a system is reliable it will be able to perform as expected. Raising the performance can impact the reliability of the system and so a balance should be found and strived to be kept. This will allow the network  to operate at peak performance while still being able to work day in and day out. Goleniewski, L., & Jarrett, K. W. (2007). The Mental Health Patient / Service User - 2635 Words

Introduction There will be an observation of when mental health was founded, then mental health will be critically explored, by investigating the meaning of mental good or poor health. A discussion on two perspectives will be then be attempted, by comparing and contrasting their ways of working with people with poor mental health and a brief understanding of the involvement of the mental health patient/ service user. There will also be a brief explanation on multidisciplinary approach that meets the needs of the service user who has poor mental health. An understanding of the diverse nature of determinates to mental health and well-being will be identified. Policies, legislations and research will be used to discuss today’s issues on†¦show more content†¦These problems may range from a short or long period of time. Mental health problems can affect the way people think, feel and behave. Some mental health problems are described using words that are in everyday use such as depression. These can make them easier to appreciate but also underestimate how serious their situation can be. A mental health problem feels as bad, or as worse, than other illnesses – the only difference is it cannot be seen. Mental health, although common – affecting one in four – there is still a stigma and discrimination against people with mental health problems (Mind, 2014). Whereas, World Health Organisation (WHO, 2014) defines mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realises their own abilities, can cope with normal stresses of life, can work productivity and is able to make a contribution their community. Whereas poor mental health is associated with rapid social change, stressful work conditions, gender discrimination, social exclusion, unhealthy lifestyle, risks of violence, physical ill-health and human rights violations. Interventions of Mental Health/illness There are differing ways of speaking about mental health and illness in present day society. There are four approaches in regards to medical interventions to mental health and four
